Workspaces are virtual desktops. You can spread your windows over several of them and switch between them instead of piling everything onto one screen. Each workspace keeps its own windows and can have its own background.
How to switch workspaces?
Ctrl+F1toF12jumps to that workspace.- Add
Shiftto take the active window along. Ctrl+`goes back to the previous workspace.- You can also drag a window while you switch, and it comes with you.
These keys are for the default Linux mode. In Classic mode use Alt instead of Ctrl. See Keyboard Shortcuts.
The Workspaces application
Workspaces is a small separate application that shows a live miniature of every workspace. Click a miniature to switch to it, or drag a window’s miniature to another workspace to move it.
Right-click its window for the options:
- Change workspace count sets how many workspaces there are.
- Switch on mouse wheel lets you scroll through them.
- Live in the Deskbar puts the switcher in the Deskbar tray.
- Show window tab, Show window border, Always on top and Auto-raise change how the window looks and behaves.
Workspaces also works as a replicant, so you can drag it by its handle onto the desktop and keep it there.
