V is built by volunteers in their spare time. Every bit of help is real help, and the project is at the stage where a handful of people doing useful things moves it visibly.
Here are the categories of work that exist today:
- Test on real hardware. Boot Vitruvian on your computer or board and report what works and what doesn’t. This is the help we need most right now.
- Run the latest builds. Between releases, test the current tree in a VM and report regressions. See the Download page and the news to know what changed.
- Port BeOS/Haiku applications. Many classic applications build with few changes.
- Fix desktop bugs. The Deskbar, Tracker and the preference panels have plenty of small bugs that need no kernel work.
- Write documentation. This very wiki is a good example.
- File issues. The Troubleshooting section explains what makes a good report.
- Help with the website. The site gets updated and maintained too.
Code contributions
Read the Coding Guidelines before writing code. The contribution flow is the usual one: discuss in the Telegram chat, fork the repository, open a pull request.
Beyond code, the project also benefits from testing, reporting, writing, and telling people about it.
How to support the project financially?
V is free. If it’s useful to you and you want to support its development, donations are welcome at the v-os.dev donate page. Donations cover infrastructure: servers, the domain, build resources. And the obvious motivational boost of people caring about your work. Even small donations count.
